This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a public school located in Washington Heights in Manhattan. We have a large hispanic, special education and English Language learner population.

The vision at our school is that all members of the school community will be treated with equality, dignity, and respect.

We must engage students actively in the learning process while they are working to achieve their full potential as competent, respectful, socially responsible citizens. We must facilitate academic excellence by enabling all students to attain maximum academic achievement.

My Project

Our youngest youth need transitional objects to be successful in school. Do you remember the comfort that your favorite stuffed animal provided for you? We want to create an environment where our students are able to have teddy bears in their classrooms to help them with their emotional health and have a comfort object to help them through anything that they may be struggling with. Students that have transitional objects in the younger years help build their emotional and social development. These bears would stay with the children in their classrooms and be a support to them daily. They will provide clothes and shelter for their new special friend and navigate together social and emotional lessons through the use of teddy bears. Studies have showed that teddy bears in the classroom have helped with disruptive and inattentive behaviors while in school. In order to build a stronger community in our school, we know that these new teddy bears would provide hours of comfort and learning for our students.
