Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My sixth grade students will be spending their last year in elementary school. This is the year where I need to prepare them for the future, this includes being prepared to use technology. Most of my students have limited resources at home and come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. However, that shouldn't prevent them from being exposed to the latest technology. I want my 6th graders to feel comfortable with technology and know how it can be a big part of learning.

95 percent of my students are of Latino backgrounds.

They are sixth graders who are closely approaching their teen years. They are intrigued by the latest trends. My students come from low-income families where their parents are struggling to make ends meet. We are located in a high-crime neighborhood where gangs and violence are not a surprise. These kids feel safe at school and are eager to learn. They come to school almost everyday and on time.

My Project

Sixth graders are supposed to know how to use a laptop, desktop, or an iPad in order to better their learning. I would like one mini iPad and a Chromebook to allow my students more individual time with doing research. During the 6th grade school year, my students will have to complete a project on Ancient Civilization, Early Human Development, and a science project. The majority of my students have little to no technology access at home. These two items will make my classroom so much more accessible when it comes to using the internet. My students currently have one desktop computer to share with 25 other students. Having these extra technology tools would allow my students to work individually and in small groups to do research for projects, typing skills, word documents, and other applications that would allow them to review common core skills. My students will feel more comfortable and have the necessary skills they would need for their future in education.
