Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are an Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) classroom of 23 students, about half of whom receive special education services. Our students are eager to learn and need the resources in order to be successful in their studies!

Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with most of our students receiving free lunch.

My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them for the rest of the day!

My Project

Our classroom literacy program is based on wide access to many great choices of books on all different reading levels. These book collections will allow us to expand our classroom library to offer students their favorite series books, and partner books, right on their reading level. Why is this so important? Reading a book in a series/collection and getting attached to a set of characters has really driven our students to continue reading.

A vast class library with choices for all students at all levels in all genres is the basis for developing a love of reading and making children lifelong readers.

Our class of fourth graders began the year averaging a second or third grade reading level, and closing that gap has meant constantly searching for ways to expand our selection of books. Books at our students’ reading levels will really make a difference for this class.
