My Students

My students are from tough backgrounds, but have a love for the stage. The students in my theater class are natural performers and enjoy being the center of attention. There is a lot they can do and they will let no obstacles stand in their way as they pursue their dreams.

Students at our schools come from very challenging backgrounds.

We have 72% receiving free and reduced rate lunch and many of our kids struggle with extreme poverty. Our building was built in the early 60s and has not been updated since. The facilities are lacking many basic aspects of a functioning theater. Many Theater students specifically come to the performing arts as an outlet, a way of escape. Our program provides opportunities for students to be featured on stage and gives them a new way to confidently approach all of the challenges in their life.

My Project

Our spring play this year is a fun fractured fairy tale Little Red Robin Hood by Flip Kobler and Cindy Marcus. This is a comedic show that is perfect for our middle school actors but it requires a few props and costumes that we don't have access too. Specifically we are looking to order a chair, a monk costume, and comically large reference map, and many other little odds and ends. Luckily for us Donors Choose has everything. And they are even cheaper to buy than to rent! All props for this show will go into our growing collection and be used in perpetuity. The costumes we purchase will also be added to our closet and we will never have to buy them again in the future.
