Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students will walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. We are a real melting pot as my students come from all walks of life and different cultures.

We are a Dual Language class and my students are accessing general education content in two languages (English/ Spanish).

They are an energetic group of first graders. We celebrate little wins together each day in both words. I seek to prepare our bilingual students to tackle the ever-changing world that demands a multitude of languages.

My Project

Reading opens the door to countless adventures. Many of my students have developed a love of reading from previous grades and we are quickly running out of books that capture their attention. Research shows that reading is a predictor of future success in school. Studies show that one of the biggest barriers to frequent reading is a lack of selection related to student interest. I want to give our class the opportunity to grow their love of reading with many options at their independent reading level. Independent reading builds confidence and a love of reading.

My students love to read independently and with partners, and I want to make sure that I have a variety of levels of books so they can enjoy reading time.
