Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is very diverse in that we have many English Language Learners. They make up almost half the population of our school. We are an all-kindergarten school made up of approximately five hundred 5- and 6-year-olds. That's a lot of little bodies that can be influenced in a positive way.

I teach eighteen enthusiastic, eager, and energetic kindergartners at a Title I school.

Our school is in a very low socioeconomic community. Because we are in a high-poverty community, all students at our school receive free breakfast and lunch through the community eligibility program. Most of my students have not had the opportunity to attend pre-k, and they have not had significant learning experiences in their homes.

My Project

I read to my students multiple times a day because I believe it is so important to read as much as possible to young children. I have several EL students in my classroom each year so reading to them is a great way for word and language exposure as well as pictures and language expression.

My students love to hear Mo Willems books because they are simple, short, and most of all FUNNY!

I only have a couple of books by this author and I would love to add the collection to our classroom library!
