Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students all come from low-income families. They are all minority students with language barriers who come from immigrant families. Most of my students are new to the United States. Many of them come to school with major gaps in their education.
Learning a second language is already difficult, but when a child already has social, emotional, and educational obstacles, it makes any challenge seem impossible.
These jerseys will help those children who are hard workers and who try their best to learn English feel that they are appreciated. My students need to keep their sights on the prize at the end of the tunnel instead of the difficulty in learning a language in a new country.
My Project
These previous soccer jerseys and memorabilia have been great. They have definitely motivated my students to do well in their end-of-year literacy exams. Almost all of my students improved in their scores compared to their middle of the year exams and they continue to ask, "What can I do to get a better grade and get a jersey?" Their intentions may not be pure, but what they will remember is that if they are motivated and work hard, they can meet their goals. This project was so successful, that I am doing it again. I have given away most of the jerseys, even to some of my ex-students who also needed the motivation to improve their grades. They immediately made up for lost assignments. I definitely need more jerseys and cultural memorabilia to give out as prizes for hard-working students. Today, I delivered some of these prizes home to virtual students. They and their parents were so proud. Thank you so much, donors. You have given my students rewards for their sacrifice and most importantly, memories that will last a lifetime.
