My Students

Have you ever played a beautiful, slow piece without the ring of a triangle? Latin music without a shaker? These auxiliary instruments have such a characteristic sound and make music so interesting to listen to.

The band is made up of 34 musicians.

They are athletic, intelligent, creative, and truly enjoy music. Many of my students come from low-income families, some speak English as their second language, and others come to school only because they look forward to band.

My Project

This school district is comprised of three communities. Many of our instrument resources are worn, corroded, and have seen far too many years of wear and tear. It's easy for someone to say, "just go buy new instruments." With the cost of music and repair of school instruments, we just do not have the funds to keep up our instrument inventory, especially the small auxiliary percussion equipment (like Aluminum Round Shaker and Black Beauty Cowbell). With these instruments, students will be able to set the mood for the songs. They will get a true, authentic appreciation for world music. I would love to have these instruments to share with them African American tribal music, Mariachi, and more!

Donations to this project will help expose students to music they would generally not hear outside of the music classroom.

These instruments give an abundance of opportunities to expose my students to world music. Because of this, they will have greater appreciation and knowledge of music from other countries around the world.
