Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Reading and writing are the major components of kindergarten! My students love to read! They just need the right resources to help them, which are limited in all the schools. I have high expectations for all my students and expect them to be above First Grade level by the end of the year.

Most of my students live in poverty and receive free lunches.

Although their socioeconomic status is low, they do not allow it to prevent them from what they want in life! They are eager to learn! They love to read, write and see the world. The majority of my students are also English Second Language Learners. They have infinite potential and are strong and courageous to face the cultural differences they might not be comfortable in. My students are optimistic learners and I make sure I am there for them during this journey of transition!

My Project

Our campus has a limited selection of guided reading books that all the students in the school have to share. With our own set of guided reading books, my students will have a better selection of books. They will be able to read with me, take the books home to read with their families, and bring the books back to school to allow other students to read the books. These books will help scaffold their reading instruction and allow them to reach higher reading levels.

Our school is a Title 1 school.

Some of my students don't even own books at home. When they come to school they appreciate all the resources, activities, and arrangement at school because they do not have it at home. I can only imagine their reaction if we get this project funded!
