Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My sophomores are eager learners, and they take ownership of their reading when given the opportunity.

My students are also involved in many school sports and activities, which causes them to miss class reading time and this makes it difficult when we have a longer book to read and not enough copies for each student to take one home.

If students can't read at home, it will take us way too long to get through this lively read, and cuts down on the time we have to do more thoughtful analysis and creative projects at the end.

Also, working out of a class set of books limits the type of notes and responses students can choose to use to respond authentically to the book. My favorite response option is to have students write annotations using sticky notes which they leave inside the book, right next to the text (vs. copying down quotes elsewhere.) Students can only do this activity if they have their own copy of the book to use.

Please help me supplement our texts so students can keep up with reading and create more authentic connections! Thank you!
