Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are very motivated scholars, but up until now we haven't always had the resources necessary. Books are difficult to come by in the new budget, let alone books that relate to our school's theme of environmental engineering.

My students attend a magnet school for environmental engineering.

Although we have an amazing robotics program, and access to a tremendous amount of technology, sadly the purchase of engaging classroom library books is sometimes somewhat overlooked. My students are curious to read more about innovators, scientists and individuals who have changed our world. They want to read about scientists that they can look up to and model themselves after and they want to read about challenges that people before them faced, and examine how they overcame those challenges.

My Project

Luckily, my students are extremely motivated. Now it is my job to get them the resources they need to be successful. My students are going to engage in a series of book clubs centered around selecting and reading about inspiring innovators. They are going to examine these individuals and their contributions to society. Then they are going to have to formulate a plan for how they are going to contribute to society.

The books that you will help purchase include books that relate to science and inventors.

They include biographies and poetry centered around people who have made major contributions to society. And to be honest, they are engaging reads for hesitant readers. Thank you for your support! It will greatly help each of my students towards reaching their goals of reading a minimum of 30 books this year!
