My Project

I work in a small, title one school in Wasilla, Alaska and every year the state holds a Battle of the Books competition. These academic athletes have to read a total of 12 books and answer quiz-style questions on them. We usually only have 2-3 copies of each book, meaning students cannot mark important information or take notes since they have to share. This will be my second year coaching and the hardest part for my school has just been having enough copies of the books early enough that the kids have a chance to read them all. We have a school library, but it often lacks the titles we need since they change yearly. The city library is 10 miles from our school, so students don't visit often.

I am requesting a classroom set of Kindles so students can borrow books from neighboring libraries throughout the school year and to be prepared for our January state-wide Battle of the Books competition.

These would be used year-round in class as well, with students being able to borrow books from local libraries digitally, or even for them to use other services like Scribe to change books often.

Although students do currently have Chromebooks, these kindles will be in black and white reducing distractions like Youtube and movies. The size makes them more comfortable for students to hold. I've included basic black covers and screen protectors for longevity. I would love to be able to get my Battlers to State this year! Please help us Battle like Champions!
