Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a Staten Island elementary school servicing a multicultural population of students from varying socioeconomic backgrounds. Music and the arts has been a powerful unifier in our school.

"Everyone should be able to make music; it's the cosmic dance." from Harold & Maude

My students are eager to participate in the arts, and that is a big focus in our building. Our children demonstrate all kinds of talents beyond their academics, and we try our best to offer as many extracurricular activities as part of a well-rounded education.

My Project

I am hoping to complete a class set of iPads for my students to use in their STEM classroom. I work very closely with the STEM teacher in our building, and we would like to have the kids collaborate on projects that would allow them to create music and videos using iPads. We are hoping to spark their interest in both music and technology by allowing them the opportunity to apply their love of music to coding and programming. However we are only working with half of a class set of iPads. This prevents our students from being able to work on their own projects individually

Using STEM concepts I look forward to enabling my students to use critical thinking and problem solving skills in conjunction with their artistic vision.
