My Students
Our classroom is an open and inviting environment designed to foster independent student learning. My students are thirsty for new materials to continue their education.
I teach in a public urban multi-age Montessori school with 65 first through sixth-grade students.
My students learn through small group and individual lessons, research and inquiry, and by going out into our community. My students come from all different backgrounds, racially and socioeconomically, and live in an urban setting. My co-teacher and I are piloting a combined Montessori 1st-6th grade classroom.
My students are involved in social justice and environmental conscious movements, taking a stand and trying to better the world. Our students work hard with the resources they have to follow their passions and find meaning in their education. In case you are wondering... I have the greatest students in the history of the world.
My Project
A strong base in mathematic skills and reasoning is so important!
In Montessori, our math materials move from construct to abstract, supporting students with many different hands on models.
As our 1st through 6th grade classroom continues to evolve, each year we identify areas where we need more materials to support students.
In this project, we are requesting a new Roman Numeral Board, where students fill out a hundred chart with Roman Numerals. This also comes with task cards for students to practice calculations with Roman Numerals. Numeral Stories are a great work where students try to match numbers with a first person story. For example: "I have a 2 in the tens place. I am greater than 3,000. I have 5 digits. Who am I?" Task cards for the Teen Board and Ratios & Proportions will help guide students as they practice concepts. The acrylic sorters are perfectly designed to organize the new materials on the shelf.
Thank you for considering supporting math in our classroom!
