My Students

Our classroom is an open and inviting environment designed to foster independent student learning. My students are thirsty for new materials to continue their education.

I teach in a public urban multi-age Montessori school with 65 first through sixth-grade students.

My students learn through small group and individual lessons, research and inquiry, and by going out into our community. My students come from all different backgrounds, racially and socioeconomically, and live in an urban setting. My co-teacher and I are piloting a combined Montessori 1st-6th grade classroom.

My students are involved in social justice and environmental conscious movements, taking a stand and trying to better the world. Our students work hard with the resources they have to follow their passions and find meaning in their education. In case you are wondering... I have the greatest students in the history of the world.

My Project

After the last year and a half with virtual and hybrid learning, we are back in the classroom full time and have so much ground to catch up and explore! In the Montessori classroom, our Culture studies encompass many subjects and areas of learning, and certain areas of the classroom were harder to work on during virtual learning. For this project we are hoping to receive new History, Music and Science materials.

Montessori materials help students to make sense of concepts and skills through hands-on learning and studying nomenclature.

Nomenclature cards teach students the definitions and etymology of terms so that they deepen their understanding.

The Timeline of Fundamental Needs will help history come alive. Elementary students love big work, and we often have big timelines spread all over the floor. The animal measuring tape is a beautiful material and I know will be a sought after work! During virtual and hybrid learning we struggled to integrate our musical instruments. The backbones of our music program are the Montessori bells and tone bars. The Teaching Rhythm in Music material will give task cards, definitions, and more for students to explore the bells and tone bars. The Europe journal will give students new science content for research and lessons.
