Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

One of the math skills that students will go on to use the most, is counting money. We teach the value of each coin and bill as well as the connection to decimal numbers. Students already use cash to pay for their snacks at the store and even on field trips.

Students will be more financially literate for their current lives if they can easily recognize money and count correct quantities.

Nothing is a better teacher than providing students time to use play money to pay for pretend groceries or bills. These materials will allow students to play cashier, counting the correct amount to be paid and the change they must give in return. These are not just math skills, they are life skills that students need for future employment and financial literacy.
