Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach a fabulous group of first grade students who are eager to learn. Most of the students in my class are ESOL and hands-on learning is a valuable way for them to acquire financial literacy skills as well as learning English.

As part of my incentive program this school year, I have a hands-on classroom store for my students where students learn how to save, spend, and manage their money.

A lifelong skill.

How does the store work? During the week, students will earn tickets for showing responsibility, demonstrating kindness, not giving up when tasks are challenging, pursuing excellence, and interacting with good manners.

At the end of each week, students will get an opportunity to shop in the store for themselves or family members. They will also have the option to save their “money” to purchase items that are more expensive. My classroom store reflects real-life in that that students can shop items such as BOGO and 50% off.

Students love getting rewards! These days, they are very into the fidget toys, squishy toys, plush animals, and squeeze balls. They also like fancy pencils, pens, and erasers! These items in the classroom store will keep them motivated to be super-star students and build life-long saving and spending skills.
