My Students

My students are inspirational! They inspire me to teach in ways that will reach each and every one of them on an individual level. They are special students with special needs. They have been identified with Autism as well as for some, Specific Learning Disabilities. My students are intelligent and eager to learn. They can be silly and playful at times. They love to learn new things and show what they already know as well. But most importantly, they love school and I want to make sure that continues!

The things that I can teach and use to make learning fun and meaningful will help my students grow as important, productive members of our school community and society.

Learning for my students must be hands-on. Learning for them must be interesting. Learning for them must be active. Being active participants in their own learning is most important and most beneficial to the development of their minds and bodies. Materials that help us to keep our learning organized is also important. Things that allow for family participation is important as well.

I need your help to make learning the best experience it can be for my students!

My Project

Financial literacy is the new math term! It means having the ability to understand and effectively use financial skills. It is important to start this type of literacy at a young age.

My goal is to help my students with special needs understand how money makes their world go 'round and the important role it plays not only in their current daily life, but also in their future.

Becoming familiar with bills and coins is important. Being able to add bills and coins is important. Understanding that items in a store cost money is important. Understanding that when you buy something you have to pay money for it is important.

I plan to use the materials provided by generous donors like you to help my students learn about money and become money savvy. I also plan to begin a class rewards system where students can earn money to purchase the things they NEED as well as the items they WANT -- since understanding the difference between the two is very important!!
