My Students

Today's society revolves around computers, video games, iPods, cellphones, and cartoons!

Seldom do parents take the time to read to their children.

I am a media specialist at a small, rural, Title I School in South Carolina, where eighty-three percent of students are on free or reduce lunch.

Our school population is made up of 430 students (286 African-American, 9 Hispanic, 18 students two or more races, and 117 students white). They enjoy learning, reading and being open to creativity.

My Project

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” -Dr. Seuss

Mommy and Me Literacy (open to mom, dad, grandparents, aunts, uncles, or other caregivers) will increase parent child interaction and promote early literacy and learning activities.

Students and parents will participate in art, fine motor, and sensory activities, stories, singing and dancing. Learning to invent stories develop literacy, stimulates imagination, and enhances family relationships. By engaging a child's imagination, will develop their ability to think outside the box.

Mommy and me time will help improve parent-child interaction and increase parents confidence.
