My Project

It is no secret that elementary students in New York City struggle mightily with understanding and engaging with complex math concepts. One of the reasons that these struggles exist is because students are not often pushed to explore big math ideas on their own. Students are taught to memorize procedural steps as opposed to modeling their thinking.

Using models in math instruction are essential to creating widespread understanding and achievement.

Through the use of these whiteboards, students will be able to model their thinking on a nice clean surface moving away from cracked and dirty chalkboards. By providing students this space they will not only be able to explore mathematical ideas, but also create a more engaging and motivating math experience.
