My Students

I teach in a fifth grade English Language Arts and Social Studies departmentalized classroom in Queens, NY. Students transition to different classroom teachers for their core subject areas. Departmentalization is helping to build more independent learners and allows me to focus more deeply on ELA and Social Studies. This model also helps to ease the difficult transition into middle school. I teach all fifty-five fifth grade students throughout the course of the day. My classroom is filled with fifty-five unique learners from many different backgrounds. Each and every student comes to my class with their own experiences and unique needs.

My Project

My classroom library needs a major update! One of my goals for this coming school year is to modernize my classroom library, including books that will interest 21st century readers. Many of the books are old and while there is nothing wrong with the classics, students reading tastes are changing! I want to give my students high interests books. Last school year the number one request from my students was MORE GRAPHIC NOVELS! My students love graphic novels and I want to help facilitate that love! I also want to give them new, exciting chapter books to build a deeper love for reading!
