My Students

I teach science in metropolitan NY. My school is a Title I school, which means that more than 60% of students in my school receive free or reduced lunch. My students are very diverse. For the past two years I have taught Living Environment to general education and ESL students. Some of them are new immigrants and some are former ESL students. They speak Arabic, Bengali, Urdu, Mandarin, Russian, Uzbek, Tadzhik, Georgian, Russian and Spanish. In addition to speaking different languages, my students vary in their academic background.

My Project

Genetics is one of the most fascinating topics in 9th grade Living Environment curriculum. It starts with structure and function of DNA molecule and then, proceeds to complex processes like replication, transcription, translation, mutations and biotechnology.

This DNA kit will help students visualize DNA structure and processes of replication and transcription.

These DNA kits will be used in the classroom or during distant learning to help students learn about DNA and processes in Genetics. Students will use these kits as a hands-on activity to build their own DNA model or will watch me building it.
