My Mock Trial students are incredibly diverse. Despite those differences, mock trial students come together to collaborate and perform at an extremely high level. Students who participate in Mock Trial must think critically and collaborate in a challenging and demanding environment.
It is an experience that is not available in otherwise challenging academic courses, and often forges meaningful lifelong friendships.
Through performance-based education, the program furthers an understanding of both the content and processes of our legal system. It requires advanced analytic ability and allows students to develop the fluency and confidence to speak publicly in real courtrooms to real attorneys and real judges. The skills that mock trialers develop are truly elite and are fundamental to success in and out of the courtroom.
My Project
Presentation skills -- effective use of gestures, voice modulation, movement, and a conversational style -- are directly related to persuasiveness in a courtroom. The easiest and most effective way to improve courtroom presentation is through video analysis.
This new system will replace our old video system--which is clunky and inefficient, requires long upload times, and is cumbersome to transport -- and will allow our mock trialers to instantly upload their videos to their own Google drive, and cast their videos immediately for analysis and feedback.
While our team has had much recent success, our presentation skills, and therefore our ability to be as persuasive as possible, need work. This system will help take our program to the next level.
