Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a dual enrollment high school in an urban district in Florida. The majority of my students come from schools from all across our county in search of the best opportunities for future success. They come to my school to excel, to grow, and to get access to doors that they may have never even known existed in their previous school.

My students are a diverse, dedicated, and hardworking group of individuals.

They have big dreams and are doing everything in their power to ensure that they can reach them. Some want to go to Ivy league schools, others want to break into the top 50, earn a full ride, or just become the 1st in their family to go to college. Some of my students come from privileged backgrounds, while many come from circumstances that are beyond rough. While they come from diverse set of backgrounds they all share a common goal in improving, getting better, and reaching a level of success that was previously unknown.

My students are engineers, artists, historians, thespians, doctors, lawyers, and politicians in the making. They have an unbelievably balanced view of the world and are open to learning from anyone.

My Project

This project will help reach 30 students. With a little more than half of my students having severe economic need its is often difficult for them to obtain the materials necessary to properly organize a legal case. As a result of this project my students will be able to utilize the materials to help them develop a greater understanding of how the law, the constitution, and our judiciary function by organizing legal binders. In the binders there will be materials from a variety of cases, it will include information from both the prosecution and defense. It will include evidence, witness statements, legal analysis, and a variety of documents including Supreme Court Opinions, and Analysis. Students will be able to utilize their organized materials to eventually try a mock case and be able to practice legal practices they studied.
