This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Our elementary school is located in SE Washington, DC, where 98 percent of all students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch and free breakfast; and 25 percent of all students receive special education services. All students with or without Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) are provided a positive learning environment that addresses both their academic and social-emotional needs as well as embraces their strengths; while giving them a sense of belonging.
Most of our students have academic challenges in either reading and/or mathematics or have behavioral challenges; and will benefit tremendously from both the mobility and flexibility an Apple iPad will provide them in a busy kindergarten classroom.
It should be noted that all of our students are amazing, full of energy, and enthusiastic about learning! They come to school ready to learn something new and have so much opportunity for growth, and that’s why it’s important for me to provide them with quality resources.
Students enjoy learning new concepts; and the usage of technology often reinforces these same concepts in a different modality. That being the case, my students will benefit tremendously from the usage of an Apple iPad, which will provide them with much needed mobility and flexibility. In our busy kindergarten classroom, some students need to be able to seek out a quiet area in the classroom with fewer distractions, while accessing the general education curriculum.
Our Special Needs' students have various disabilities, often coming from different backgrounds or households, and frequently have significant deficits in either academics and/or social emotional learning.
Specifically, these students will benefit from additional hands-on technology. However, all of my students will have access to this Apple iPad.
