Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from predominantly low-income, Spanish-speaking homes. Many live in a single-parent or guardian household or have parents that are unable to extend learning after school from working multiple jobs.
Teachers at our Elementary are working hard to redefine what urban education looks like for our scholars by combating the high cost of disengagement and providing them with high-quality, competitive, engaging, and relevant instruction and learning opportunities that will teach them to be inquisitive, lifelong learners, not merely students able to regurgitate facts or pass an examination.
My students are some of the most hardworking, inquisitive, delightful people who genuinely want to learn and succeed.
My Project
My students would benefit from having a large, mobile, double-sided magnetic whiteboard for use during whole-group interactive read alouds on the carpet. This will help me reach not just auditory, but visual learners in that area who will be able to see skills come to life. A mobile whiteboard will likewise promote engagement and opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning.
A whiteboard will be less wasteful and great for reuse as we currently tape expensive anchor chart paper to the cabinet next to the carpet, which is not easy to write on and likewise not conducive for all students to see and access!
