Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

At least once a week the students will come up to me and tell me that one of our book baskets have broken or is cracked and about to break. They are then replaced and then placed back onto a bookshelf. Unfortunately because we constantly move them to take the books out this will continue to happen.

My students are in the third grade and are very interested in reading.

Most of the students still enjoy being read to but are beginning to prefer to be the one who is reading to an audience. The boys in my class love to read non-fiction/sci-Fi stories and the girls love to read fiction. Our school is a NYC Title one school and we suffer greatly whenever there is a budget cut.

My Project

Usually I am in search of books for our classroom library, but thanks to donations, I am able to say that my classroom library is adequately furnished. However at this time I find myself constantly buying and replacing the bins holding the books due to breakage. I really believe that this mobile book storage cart would benefit the classroom library because the books would go directly into its slots. It is also very sturdy because it is made of wood and is still easily accessible for the students to check out the books.

This mobile book organizer would be greatly appreciated for two reasons.

First, by the students, so they could have a sturdy storage area for their books and second, by myself, so I can stop replacing the containers weekly.
