My Students

My students are fun loving, eager to learn children with special needs ranging in grades from kindergarten through first grade. They attend a K-1 self-contained Special Ed. class in a public school in Queens.

My students are supported with hands on activities and topics they enjoy.

They love to learn about animals, plants and the natural world.

Students often work in small groups to develop academic and social skills. They are learning to collaborate with their peers and share ideas and express themselves through learning experiences.

My Project

Mo Williems writes and illustrates engaging picture books for young readers. Providing a selection of fun, creative and visually interesting Mo Williems children's books in our class library will encourage and develop a love of reading to a group of children with disabilities. Students will be motivated to apply reading strategies such as understanding character, setting, story sequence and identifying problem and solution while reading funfilled stories. They are entertained by the silly animal characters and look forward to reading other books in the series. Students will have the opportunity to learn about the author and compare the different characters across the collection of Mo Williems story books.
