My Students

Research can be challenging, especially if you don't have much experience or the proper resources. The high school juniors I have this school year have been introduced to research in previous years, but are going to immerse themselves in this form of writing from now until June.

My co-teacher and I have been working diligently to revamp the curriculum for our juniors.

We want to make it more applicable to real life and want to be sure our students are prepared for college and other future paths they may take. Research has been our key focus and a prime component of our new curriculum. The students will spend many class periods researching in the library and will create at least four research projects during the school year. During the last marking period, the juniors will write a traditional research paper, and their culminating assessment will be a portfolio that contains all of the research projects they created during the school year.

My Project

We have created handouts to show the students how to document their sources in the MLA format and create bibliographies. The problem is that these handouts are mere photocopies and have been used and reused countless times. We need a material that will last the test of time and will be something students can use without the fear of tearing them or losing pages. My students need a class set of The "St. Martin's Pocket Guide to Research and Documentation" to help them cite sources for their research papers.

Your help will make it possible for our juniors to have easy access to research style and usage rules.

The requested research guides will enhance our new College and Career Readiness curriculum and prepare students for life after high school.
