My Students

Technical Theater is a class that designs, prototypes, and builds all the sets, props, and costumes for the musicals and shows at the high school. Every day is very different depending on what part of the show we are working on; this makes each day exciting and challenging for all students.

Technical Theater can be one of the most unique classes taught at the school.

In the same class we have drama, vocational, special ed, fashion, art, and main-stream students. This creates for a unique classroom environment that allows students who do not normally mix to work along side one another. The class takes pride in putting together the best shows possible. This means that each person works with-in his or her strength. If a student is passionate about fashion and sewing, then he or she can be a costume designer. If an art student wants to learn how to use the tools and be a builder, then that is what they will do. Each student has a specific role that is vital for them to play. Without the students hard work, the shows would not get done and the musical would be disappointing.

My Project

As it stands, the theater is drastically under equipped to handled and produce the caliber performances that the high school desires. The hope is that with this new saw a proper tool collection is started. A miter saw is the primary saw used to cut down raw lumber into the correct dimensions. This means that for most props and for the entirety of the set; the saw will be used to frame out the work. Every student will learn how to use the saw safely and be required to use it in the class. Each show that is produced is always different, but every show has to be framed and set up the same way. This saw will ensure that the accuracy of cuts and the easy of operations allows for the best show possible. The saw is also able to make complex angle cuts, which is perfect for whimsical shows, where the sets needs to looks crazy but still be safe. Through the use of this saw, students will learn design, safe operations, and finishing work.

This saw will have such a huge impact on how the technical theater class works.

As of now, a lot of the work is done by hand which increases the chance of error. A saw like this allows for precision work and better control. Once precision in increased quality of work always improves. The goal is to make the best and most professional productions possible; the proper equipment helps to ensure that result.
