I teach fifth grade science and social studies in a rural community in North Carolina.

My students do not have many resources at home or in the classroom to reinforce the concepts in science that are tested by the state. Children are expected to learn and retain incredible amounts of information each year. I have learned that the key to students understanding the concepts that I teach is to allow them as much practice with the vocabulary as possible.

Having resources to help students build background knowledge about ecosystems, landforms, weather, and forces will greatly benefit them, not only on my classroom assessments, but also on the standardized state test. The items that I am requesting will give students a chance to explore science at a self-made pace throughout the year.

You will make it possible for my students to build confidence and knowledge in science so that they can become successful engineers, meteorologist, or environmentalist one day. Thank you for your support!
