My Project

In August, I will begin my 20th year of teaching and I am very excited about my "mission!" I will be working with Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders who need intensive foundational reading skills instruction. I take great pride in joy in helping students learn to read; seeing their confidence grow once they realize they can read is incredibly rewarding. Over the last several years, I have had the professional development to prepare me for this role and have a high-quality program I will implement.

All that's left are the materials my students and I need to succeed in the mission!

The dry erase paddles will be a hit with my students; we'll use those during the warm-up portion of the lesson each day when students practice writing and saying the letter-sound correspondences they have learned. After I have taught a new concept, students will practice spelling words with dry erase markers on the plastic pocket sleeves. And while the program provides decodable passages for each lesson, students will love reading the decodable books, especially the "Laugh-a-Lot" series.

One goal I have is to increase parent involvement this year and I plan to send home materials each week so students have opportunities to reinforce their reading and writing skills at home. Each student will have a 3-ring binder to hold his/her decodable passages as well as the program's Home Practice sheet and materials families can use to help their children practice reading and spelling.
