Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Routines. Each and everyone has a purpose. The purpose might differ from one to the next but they all have a common goal, to create awareness and independence. Developing young minds to be able to make decisions and choices that reflect independent actions. Independence, the ever-going challenge..

My classroom is filled with very bright minds.

Personalities that can light up any room and put a smile on your face at any time. My students are persistent, do not give up easily, and always willing to help one another. We have built a family in my classroom, where each student is important, special, unique, respected, and cared for. Students in our school come from very low income families who are trying to make ends meet. Our school is a Title I school. This means that 99% of our school population lives below the poverty level and is entitled to the free lunch program. Although the students in our school have limited resources, they are always eager to learn and are very enthusiastic and independent. Most of our students live in housing projects or shelters. The resources available to the school are very limited.

My Project

I am back at it again, trying for the second time to obtain a mailbox center that can meet the needs of my first graders and I think I have finally found one. Students will be able to enter the classroom from the moment they walk in and have an independent organization system where they will have their own mailbox to place their folder/homework. Students who are done early with work throughout the day will be able to have a job of putting returned work and special announcement papers into the correct box. Students will also have a set organized place where their work will be every single day. This mailbox center will also provide a place to hold their many paper choices for writers workshop.

Donations to this project will finally let the mission of creating an independent learner come full circle.

Children learn through authentic interactions; where they are able to touch and interact with objects. When students get the opportunity to do things on their own through interactions, then will they get the chance to move from a dependent learner to an independent learner.
