Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I've been a 2nd-grade teacher in a Title I school for 18 yrs. All of my students are wonderful, bright, inquisitive, and full of potential. I try my best to provide them with new experiences that will prepare them for their future, but unfortunately, my school doesn't have the funds to provide the materials needed for me to create technology driven lessons or to start a STEM/Engineering Club after school. I want to spark my student’s interests in careers that involve robotics, engineering, and other fields of science. In order to do this, I’d like to begin by teaching them simple coding and then working our way up to more advanced levels. The children I teach deserve the exposure and experiences that are more difficult to come by when living in a low-income area.

My Project

As a teacher in our world today, I find myself surrounded by technology everywhere I go. Children are the future and they deserve the chance to become the innovators and developers of the technology of tomorrow. My students currently don’t have that opportunity, as our school lacks the technology and funds to provide the tools necessary to open their minds and interests in engineering and building technology. The Botley Robot Kits will provide my students with problem-solving skills and an understanding of how coding works. This, in turn, will spark an interest in more advanced technology. I plan to use these kits as a stepping stone to a robotics program in my class and eventually to expand to more children at my school, perhaps in a Robotics Club. I hope to inspire my students to become the future innovators of the world, but first I must provide them with the tools they need. I hope I can get funded by the amazing donors I can reach through DonorsChoose!
