My Project

Art is one of the key ways that many students who do not do well academically are able to show their talents, express their feelings and feel good about their final products and themselves.

Art is a fun time for my students to explore, show their creativity and enhance their self-esteem!

When students have something to look forward to in school- they want to be there and many times will do better academically.

The items that I am requesting are going to help me buy the materials I need to enhance my students' artwork. They will be creating 2 art projects. The first one is creating a spider out of construction paper. Instead of having paper legs, using black pipe cleaners will give them a tactile sensation that my students can poise and make their spiders a lot more interactive and fun.

The second project involves creating an artwork that features caterpillars, leaves and flowers. It is a collage type artwork that I would like to use the pom poms and googly eyes to bring their caterpillars to life instead of having them create it out of paper.

My yearly school budget comes out to less than $.75/student which doesn't allow me to purchase a lot for my art program that services over 700 students. I need to rely on donations or my own money to help me purchase any additional art materials. In addition, a lot of my students come from low income households where they don't have extra money to purchase supplies. Having these extra special supplies for art gives their projects that extra touch of magic that makes my students proud to show off to their families what they did.

Art can truly enhance all of my students' wellness and self-esteem!
