Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Myself (Miss Rizzo) and my teacher partner Mrs. Martinez are Kindergarten teachers at a bilingual charter school in the City of Rochester, New York. Our school is called Eugenio Maria De Hostos Elementary Charter School. It is located in a very low income area. Our classroom is apart of the Duo language program. Where we alternate between Spanish & English.
I will explain in detail how these specific items we are requesting will make a difference in our students learning.
The EXPO markers are needed for daily use. For example, our kids need them to write on mini white boards to practice their letter sounds, letter recognition & their sight words. The stools are needed for students to sit for small group instruction located at our back table with one of the teachers. The light covers are needed because our little ones have sensitive eyes. The bean bag chairs are needed in our calming corner/reading area for a more relaxed & inviting time. The sound machine would benefit our students in the calming corner that need extra time to reflect/relax. The sensory items will also be a benefit to our students in the calming corner that need another way to help them wind down. The large tape rolls are needed for classroom projects. The mini white boards will be used to practice their letter sounds, letter recognition & sight words. The pocket chart will be used for the word wall. The folders will be used for homework & any other paper communication we need to send to families. The fuzzy rug will be used in the calming corner as a sensory tool to help relax them. Lastly, the laminator/laminating sheets will be used to laminate papers for daily use in centers or for writing practice.
