My Project

My students who come to me before lunch often ask, "Miss, do you have any snacks?" They often say they have not had breakfast and that they're hungry. I know that many of them don't have food at home, or no one there to prepare it. I once had a student eat apple pie filling out of a can for breakfast; I assume that that can was picked up at a food pantry.

I want to make sure my students are focused and ready to learn; hunger makes that difficult.

Being able to provide snacks helps them associate school with comfort and nurturing.
