My Project

As the first and only dance educator at PS/IS 49, I have had the responsibility of turning an empty classroom in to a space that is appropriate and safe to dance in. I had been on my way to getting mirrors for our classroom during my first year at the school (2019) but unfortunately that project was shut down when COVID 19 caused schools to close in March. The following two years, I did not have access to my own classroom and had the added challenge of teaching students in their regular academic environment and conducting dance class between desks. We are so excited to be back in a space that is dedicated to dance only and I would love for this room to feel more like a "real" dance classroom.

Students will use the mirrors as self-assessment tools, and as a way to enhance their understanding and memorization of choreography.

It would help build their self confidence and level of comfort while dancing and overall enrich their dance education.
