Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Please help supply my first-grade classroom with an assortment of miniature pencil erasers to use as math manipulatives throughout their first-grade school year. The mini pencils will be used in writing and math along with rewards throughout the year. The size of the pencil is the perfect size for little hands!

Students need hands on experience with counting real objects before being able to transfer that knowledge to math symbols and meaning.

Having simple miniature pencil erasers with various themes for each season will make first graders excited for math concepts. The erasers will help support developing number sense which is making sense of numbers as in amounts.

Students will also use the erasers to count the sounds that they hear when sounding out words to write. One eraser for each sound. They will move the eraser into a box for each sound. This allows the students to see how many sounds they hear before they write the word. Then they will use their special mini pencil to write their words.
