Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a speech-language therapist providing services to students from PreK to the 5th grade with receptive and expressive language impairments. My Pre-K and Kindergarteners are an exciting group of inquisitive students who are learning various skills through structured play, songs, story-time and hands-on activities. My tenacious 1st and 2nd graders enjoys learning new concepts as they build upon their previous knowledge. My witty 3rd-5th graders loves participating in group work and learning through friendly competitive academic based activities.

The joy of watching them explore novel experiences while learning through multi-sensory approaches is absolutely priceless!

Although the odds might appear to be against them, my students put their best foot forward to achieve their academic goals.

My Project

Help me provide hands-on activities that will foster phonological awareness, literacy and vocabulary skills as well as the continued desire to learn through exploration. Activities such as the Farm Exploration Toolbox, Storytime Literacy cards, and hand puppet books would help my students work on improving their expressive language skills through describing and retelling story events. My students who struggle with reading comprehension and writing will benefit from the Sequence & Write and Storytelling Writing Box. These activities will help to engage the students in writing creative pieces while applying writing strategies that they have learned.

Many of my students are visual, tactile and kinesthetic learners who require all these modalities to overcome academic challenges.

Other learning tools such as the Word Building Center would help students with decoding/encoding and the Prepositional Words Resource would be used to help students learn spatial concepts. I've also included supplies such as wipes, Kleenex and sanitizers that would be needed to start the new school. With your help, these items will help young minds get ready, and set to go for the upcoming school year!
