Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work with students with special needs. My students are wonderful. They are kind and caring individuals, but there are moments when they are anxious. My students are learning to be mindful of their bodies and recognize their emotions to help them maintain their bodies regulated. I am teaching my students about the importance of self care. We take care of our bodies and our minds. Students are learning that we want to have healthy bodies and a positive self image. We practice saying pro-social comments to each other and positive self-affirming comments to ourselves.

Mindfulness practices improves mental health and the materials in this project help my students engage in mindfulness practices to reduce their anxiety.

Our class has a calm area where students engage in mindfulness activities. Students take breaks in the calm area. The materials in this project are Warmies and they are plush puppies, kittens, pandas and unicorns. Warmies are heavy and when held they give deep pressure which promotes relaxation. Warmies smell like lavender which is calming. Warmies help my students calm down and let go of stress. The Warmies in this project will be given to my students, so they can use their Warmie at school or their home.

My students are learning importance of taking care of their bodies and their minds. They are leaning the importance of having good mental health. Students are learning to recognize moments when they experience self defeating thought and replacing that thought with a positive grown mindset thought. My students will be thrilled to have their very own theraputic Warmie to use at school and home when they are feeling anxious to help them improve their mental health.
