This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
How valuable is your mental health to you? It means the world to me and my students. We are currently working to create a brave space that will provide a mindful opportunity for them and their peers to reflect, glow, and grow. This mindfulness room will be set aside from any other space because it is being designed for kids, by kids. At alarming rates, students are asking for and desiring a space with beanbag chairs, coloring books, colored pencils, and other items where they can simply take a break, a moment in time to gather themselves, breathe, and let it all go.
During times such as these, we are actively working to amplify student voices and highlight their needs based on their feedback as it pertains to mental health.
Students are asking for the supports around mental health and social-emotional learning to further develop themselves as productive members of our society. By funding any part of this project for students, it will show them that they too matter. It will show that their voice has been heard and it is valued.
Mental health is extremely important to my students and by creating this project for them to furnish their room, we will begin to build upon the space they are desiring to support themselves and their peers.
