Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The items in the cart will allow me to provide the students with a large corner area with supplies to self regulate, calmness, anxiety relief and learning about personal health. There will be floor cushions, a few toss pillows for comfort, and aroma therapy area. I will provide a snack and beverage counter with weekly snacks as students on medication have a drop in levels & do not have snacks most of the time. My goal is to provide a comfortable area where the students can use it to regroup themselves an can return to the learning environment with out having to exit my classroom and miss instructional time if mental health counseling from a professional is not needed. Providing the open mindfulness awareness space with positive reminders will create a positive environment where they can feel comfortable to be themselves with the teacher they spend the time with. What makes my students special is that they all try to bring things in to help each other. We have slowly been trying to create this space and it has shown improvement in behavior and focus without the need to leave and classroom interruption.
