8th grade is the best! My 8th graders come from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. Our school is a Title 1 school. We're a suburban community that pulls students from a wide range of neighborhoods.
My 8th graders are on the edge between childhood and adulthood; they are so ready to soar.
In middle school, each day brings them closer to discovering who they're going to be. Each day gives them an opportunity to grow into responsible, respectful adults.
My Project
Remember middle school? Teenage life is tough! Your friends are moody, your teachers are demanding, and your parents won't leave you alone! My students come to class with a plethora of things on their mind, distracting them from their learning. This is normal, and not something that will go away. We all have stress, and how we manage stress is something that can be learned.
Mindfulness kits will help teach my students positive ways to stay focused.
When my students are feeling stressed, or bummed, or overwhelmed, they can borrow the mindfulness kit to take with them to our team room to help them feel recharged and ready to learn. Students will use the stress balls, tangle toy, and slinky bracelet to help release stress through movement. They'll use the meditation and affirmation cards to find a positive phrase to focus on. They'll use the coloring books when they need a break. The aromatherapy and chimes will be used inside the classroom to help guide the whole class in mindful practices.
