Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students have been going through a lot in the past years, especially with their struggles in social-emotional learning. It is integral to our students' futures that they learn these important skills, especially when they don't always have examples in other areas of their lives. Our students deserve a space where they can regulate their emotions and calm their minds and bodies so they can be more prepared to learn and retain information in the classroom. In order to make this space as comfortable and inviting for our students, we would like to include comfortable seating such as bean bags, stools, a plush rug, an essential oil diffuser, sensory toys, encouragement and kindness cards, books to help them understand and cope with how they may be feeling, soft lighting, and soothing sounds/music. Having these materials in our new mindfulness room will help them relax and stay focused during the school day and beyond. School-based mindfulness rooms have been shown to increase students' ability to regulate their emotions, helping them become better learners.

Our school offers all students an atmosphere that is conducive to learning and a curriculum that is rigorous, consistent, sequential, and individualized to meet the needs and learning styles of each student, with a focus on each student's intellectual, personal, social, and physical development.
