Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

What I love most about my amazing students is their boundless curiosity, resilience, and unique personalities. Each child brings a unique story and perspective, creating a vibrant school filled with potential. However, they often face challenges navigating their emotions and building connections with one another. I believe my students would benefit greatly from targeted SEL resources that help them navigate their emotions and build stronger connections with each other.

The resources I’m requesting—a selection of thoughtful books and interactive materials/manipulatives—are specifically chosen to foster empathy, self-awareness, and emotional regulation for my students.

These engaging stories will allow my students to explore feelings and situations, helping them to better understand themselves and their peers. The hands-on activities will encourage teamwork and collaboration, essential skills for their future.

My goal is to create a nurturing space where every student feels safe expressing themselves and supporting each other. I want to cultivate an environment that prioritizes emotional well-being alongside academic growth. With these resources, I envision my school counseling classroom transforming into a community where kindness and understanding flourish.

What makes my students truly special is their innate ability to uplift one another. They are already compassionate and eager to help, and I want to equip them with the tools to amplify that kindness. By providing them with SEL resources in elementary, we can empower them to become empathetic leaders who can navigate life's challenges with confidence.

As the only elementary counselor in LAUSD, your support in this project will truly have a profound impact on students’ lives. Together, we can help these incredible young minds grow into emotionally intelligent individuals ready to make a difference in the world.
