Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a public kindergarten through eighth-grade school in a high-poverty, urban community in New Jersey. They love music, art, and physical education classes despite our small budget and limited supplies.

Due to Covid, we have been spending as much times outdoors as possible--but we are limited to being in an empty lot.

If we had two volleyball nets and some volleyballs, my students could enjoy playing during their lunches. They are currently playing volleyball with an imaginary net using whatever ball they can get their hands on.

My Project

My students have been put through the ringer. They have endured virtual learning, masking, and being separated from most of their peers. Their downtime is their lunch period and they want to burn energy. They love volleyball but we don't have the proper equipment so they actually play pretending to have a net using whatever ball they can find.

If my students had actual volleyball nets and volleyballs, their lunch times would be safer and more fun.

They would get a true break from the new reality of school and enjoy themselves.
