it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a TRUST counselor to approximately 300 students at a middle school in the South Florida area. The children are in 6th through 8th grade, and their ages range from 12 to 15. Over 80% of our students come from households with lower-than-average incomes.
My middle schoolers sorely need toiletry and dental supplies: we need to stock up on deodorant, shampoo, conditioner and toothpaste.
Our middle school students face adjustment issues, peer pressure, bullying and cyberbullying, social isolation, familial issues (including death, alcohol, and drug problems), hormone changes, dating issues, and sexual orientation concerns. It's difficult to cope with issues like these, never mind academic challenges, when the children's most basic needs are not being met. The 'student life essentials' category is a golden opportunity to meet those needs.
My Project
Many of our parents are newly-arrived in the U.S. and earn lower-than-average incomes. Some are too busy or preoccupied to meet all of their children's needs. We partner with community agencies to give our students regular dental screenings. It would be great to be able to offer our kids toothpaste and toothbrushes as well. Additionally, shampoo would be useful. We have facilities in the clinic where our children can take a shower. Our middle schoolers need deodorant and feminine hygiene supplies. It would be wonderful if our school could furnish our kids with these items. It is only once these most basic needs are catered for that we can go on to address our students' many social and academic needs.
