This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Hello! I am the Psychiatric Social Worker for a middle school spanning grades 6-8 in North Hills, California.

Our students are diverse, resilient, strong, bright, and beautiful!

We are a Title I school, with the majority of our students coming from low-income households. Demographically, our students are minority-majority, with white students comprising only 2% of population. We are a safe, supportive and innovative learning community where students are inspired and valued.

As a Psychiatric Social Worker, I provide a safe space for students to come to when they are under stress and/or struggling socially, emotionally, and mentally. This upcoming school year, that space is physically in a classroom, full-time, which I am so grateful for! However, I want to transform the room so that it feels less institutional and more like a welcoming, relaxing student lounge. I need your help to bring in safe, clean, and comfortable seating, fidget toys, therapy games, rugs, and more to make the room as inviting and calming as possible.

With your help, we can create a welcoming space for them to decompress, share their feelings, and get prepared to take on their academic and social challenges.
