My Students

My students are truly representative of the beautiful borough of Brooklyn. They are a diverse group of hard working, dedicated, ambitious young women attending one of the city's few-but-proud all-girls public schools.

We are a small, tightly knit community, where everyone really gets to know one another.

Many of our students come to us in grade six and stay with us through high school graduation.

The young people I work with are some of the kindest, most creative, open-hearted, and open-minded people I've ever been privileged to come to know.

My Project

Ms. Britton and I are starting a middle school volleyball club. Middle school sports are a chance for students to learn how to put community over competition and deal with disappointment in a healthy way. We hope to support students with these knee pads and ensure that students can practice safely.

Middle school sports allow students to build problem solving abilities, self esteem and physical fitness.

Research demonstrates a wide range of positive outcomes for children who are physically active, including higher academic achievement, higher likelihood to attend college, increased success in the workplace, lower heath care costs, and decreased risk for obesity and other health problems (Aspen Institute Sport for All Play for Life; Menestrel & Perkins, 2007; Barber et al., 2001; Eccles et al., 2003; Eccles & Barber, 1999).
